Friday again, and you know what that means: Go To Campus For No Good Reason Other Than To Hang Out Day. Actually, that wasn't my original plan, but since said plan got postponed, I figured I might as well go to campus.
Before the drive, I found myself digging through the racks looking for Dodgy's
Free Peace Sweet to play in the car. I have no idea what brought that on, considering I haven't heard that album with any regularity since, like, the second year of high school, when I bought it. Now that I think about it, the uptempo harmony-laden pop rock reminds me of
Sunflower, one of the Beach Boys' best albums which I listened to quite a bit when making my Beach Boys compilation. Plus there was the fact that I left the PC on before falling asleep last night, and when I woke up and deactivated the screensaver, the first thing onscreen was the review for that album at www.allmusic.com . Sounds a bit of a stretch, but that's the only explanation I can come up with.
Anyway, it was great listening to
Free Peace Sweet again. High school was a long time ago, but that album sure has aged well. I think it's one of the first times I bought an album purely because of one song I heard on the radio ('Good Enough'), and ended up liking the whole album as well. 'In A Room', 'Trust In Time', 'If You're Thinking Of Me', 'Good Enough', 'Found You', 'One Of Those Rivers'...classics. It's been a real long time since I've felt something like that when buying new stuff. Or maybe it's just a case of too much music, too little time to really get into anything.
Got to campus, hung out with the guys my age (which are on the verge of extinction), checking out all the women passing by. Well, what else are several (presumably) hetero males to do? I eventually split from the group to check out the final votes of the student association elections, where I ended up being the most ancient person there. Ah well: this is my last semester on campus, so I might as well make the most of it while it lasts. Plus it's always good to bond with the younger generation, especially the girls. I had my trusty digicam with me, and I got to thinking about the movie
City Of God. I haven't actually sat down and watched it, but I've seen enough to know that the guy with the camera gets all the breaks. That certainly seems the case in real life...
Got home, went online, and found
this tidbit of news. I've been translating for
Golf Digest for over a year now, and though I still haven't come close to taking up golf as a pastime, I sure wouldn't have clicked on that headline if I weren't doing golf-related work. So I guess you could say it's had an effect on my life. Guess I'll soon be working on my greens in regulation play. Whatever that is.
