High on diesel and gasoline

Spent most of the day reading the Suede biography, about two thirds through. First time in a long while a book has kept me enthralled. Massive drug intake and constant in-fighting are always entertaining to read about. Segue into today's pop culture reference coincidence: I was on MSN and Indah got in touch, asking me to check her mail because she couldn't access it, which eventually led to talking about other stuff, particularly Victoria's Secret (don't ask). Now see, I don't chat online with her that often. So it's rather odd that at this particularly time - when I'm reading about Suede and listening to their Singles compilation as background music - that I end up chatting with someone whom I saw their gig with.

Also went for a haircut, which meant my hair was at a state in which I was sick of looking at it in the mirror. Actually I'd been sick of it for a while, so I'm not sure why I chose this particular time. Maybe the fact that there's a birthday party on Saturday night had something to do with it. Or maybe I'd been more influenced by reading the book than I'd thought, having made a conscious effort to dress neater when I went to campus. Cue another coincidence, albeit non-pop culture: Nila called out of the blue for something or other, and conversation veered to her telling me that she had just had a haircut which she wasn't terribly pleased about. Fortunately I am with mine, so that's where the similarities end.

On life-support

Actually I wasn't going to write a blog entry today. I'm out of interesting things to say at the moment (not that everything before this could definitely be considered interesting, but I digress). But based on previous experience, an extended period of not writing leads to me losing interest and inevitably abandoning the whole thing...well, at least until someone guilt-trips me into writing again. So I've decided to go ahead anyway, for self-discipline reasons if nothing else. Old dog, new tricks...

Wednesday, May 26th: Stayed home all day, nothing happened. (Told you I was running out of things to say.)

Thursday, May 27th: Went to campus for what has now become my last ever class. On to the comic shop for my somewhat weekly stash, then on to PIM to meet up with Chika and Andra, the former having just got back from Singapore and got me a copy of the long-coveted Suede biography, Love & Poison. Went to Aksara after that, looking for something to spend my voucher on. Opted for the latest issue of Q. So much to read, so little time...

Playing catch up again...

Sunday, May 23rd: Left in the morning with Dad to check out our land in Ciputat. Based on the last experience, it's on a one way road that means we have to go through the goddamn market (I say goddamn because the traffic is inexplicable), so Dad got off at the main road, while I looked for a U-turn. Unfortunately, the road leading to the land was after the last U-turn, and so I had to go through the market. After going one way and seeing the traffic on the opposite lane where I was supposed to be, I stayed the course and took the long way round. And when I say long, I mean looooong: heading towards Pamulang, turning right at Pondok Cabe, taking the very rocky road through Cirendeu, and emerging near Ciputat again. I used to live in the area, but at this point I have absolutely no qualms should they ever decide to turn the entire place into rubble.

Was supposed to be our second match of the tournament, but once again things went awry: it rained really heavily and rendered the pitch unusable. A sign? Hope not; it'd suck to lose our title without much of a fight. Ended up playing futsal on Al-Azhar's basketball court-turned-futsal pitch against our would-be opponents for the day. Scored two lucky goals, but the downside was that we were playing barefoot, and I ripped a hole on the underside of my right big toe. Ouch.

Afterwards, hung out with the guys until late, listening to Dandy relate tales from his few months' experience as a call centre employee for a phone operator. Hilarious stuff. But then again he could turn the most boring thing imaginable into a laugh-a-minute story.

Monday, May 24th: Still recovering from the effects of the previous day. Think I got some work done, but I'm not too sure. Ah well.

Tuesday, May 25th: Awoke this morning to two phone calls: one was from the organisers of the Missy Elliott gig on Wednesday, telling me that today's scheduled press ID pick-up was cancelled. The next one was from campus, reminding me that my time's up on August 20th, not the 31st. Ack.

And then off I went to a press conference by the promoters for the upcoming Boyz II Men gig. On the way, I found out that the Missy gig was off, and when I got to the press con, I learned that it was cancelled due to the U.S. Government issuing another travel warning, telling its citizens to avoid going to Indonesia for safety reasons. Crap. The press conference itself was more enjoyable than the usual affairs: less people, higher quality of questions, free food...and as I was about to leave, one of the people handed me an envelope containing money. Paying me to attend a press conference? Sweet. I have no idea as to why, and whether I was the only one. But either way, sweet.

The end of an era

Getting a bit behind...

Friday, May 21st: Was supposed to be my last day as a class-going student on campus, but one class was rescheduled for next week. It was supposed to be the last day because finals are next week, but the campus is usually close to deserted during exam week. So it was my last day as a student in normal study circumstances. In the evening, went to play billiards. I'm crap at that, but not as crap as I used to be. One of those practice makes perfect things. Got home at 1, which accounts for no blog.

Saturday, May 22nd: At home for half the day. Not that I had any plans in the morning, but even if I did, I'd probably have them cancelled or postponed, considering the disheartening amount of traffic usually found outside my window on Saturday mornings.

And then my ex called. She had sort of broken up with her boyfriend, and was undergoing a Rob-from-High Fidelity moment, tracking down anyone she could to find out what was wrong with her. Did my best to convince her that it's not necessarily her fault, and the reason we broke up is because we weren't right in the first place, even though it took us almost three years to realise it. It was hard to see her all in tears over the guy, but ah well. She's a big girl. If she loves him that much, she'll know what she has to do.
