Back again

Again, my absence of late hasn't been because I haven't had any time to write, it's just that I had nothing remotely interesting to write about. But as usual, if I leave it too long, I'll end up not going back to writing, and we can't have that, can we? It's all about discipline, baby.

Saturday, August 28th: Left home in the afternoon for Romi's house, for a round of the brand new Winning Eleven 8 versus Romi, Ary, Babal and Ochi. It took a bit of adjusting, but then again, I rarely played the old version anyway, so it wasn't that big of a stretch. Another thing that was consistent was my continuing run of bad luck: I played pretty good, had a lot of chances...but kept getting beaten by gaffe goals, the sort that could get a player shot if he were Colombian. Unfortunately I couldn't stay long enough to string a winning run together, so maybe next time lads...

Also had Zaky's wedding to attend (which was why I had to leave Romi's early). Lots of Foreign Ministry big-wigs showed up, 'cause his new father-in-law's the deputy of mission in Malaysia or something like that. Been thinking about the Foreign Ministry; naturally, that's what you think of when you spend a good chunk of your life studying International Relations. But of course, it's going to take a lot of sweat and tears to get to a level that enables one to have a decent living from it. So the question is, if I had a chance, would I be up to the grief involved? If there's an opening, I might as well throw my hat in and see where it goes...

After the wedding, I discovered that it now takes some effort just to stay up late for my favourite shows. For two weeks in a row, I've fallen asleep halfway through Saturday Night Live (11pm on Saturdays) - which is no big deal, considering there's a re-run the next day. But of course, there's also Coupling (and starting next week, The Office) which I can only catch at 1:30 should there be a wedding to attend or they're showing Liverpool. So I learnt my lesson from last week, set the alarm for 1:28 instead of 1:25, and practically forced myself to stay awake during Coupling - and fell back to sleep before Absolutely Fabulous came on. No big loss, didn't like Ab. Fab. that much anyway. Looks like I'll have to get more sleep in for next week.

Sunday, August 29th: At home all day. They showed Bolton versus Liverpool on TV. A special match, since it marked the debut of Liverpool's two newest signings, Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia. Both came with good reputations...so why did the team play like shit and lose 1-0? More homework for Mr. Benitez...

Monday, August 30th: At home all day, again. Well, what else do you expect when you have nowhere to go and nothing to do?

Tuesday, August 31st: Dad's birthday today, and he's looking pretty good for someone who's 62 years old. Can still pass for a fifty-something, still has his mental faculties, still hasn't lost control of his bodily functions (as far as I know). I, too, want to grow old gracefully, so I hope it's all genetic.
